5 Great Things About Turning 50!

This week I turned 50 years old. 50! Holy cow. It looks pretty good from up on top of this hill. I can look around and reflect on where I have been and where I am going. In my travels, I have Googled turning 50 (I Google everything!), and this neat little article popped up that I thought I would share with you. The fact that it’s on the website seniors.lovetoknow.com stopped me for a moment, but then you are only as old as you feel (senior, though? yikes!), and I continued reading the article. It’s titled 50 Good Things About Turning 50. I realized that it was easy enough to share the whole article with you rather than reinvent the wheel. It’s a… Read More »5 Great Things About Turning 50!

Why Do Your Clients Choose You As Their Virtual Assistant?

I was reading a chapter in Blue Ocean Shift the other day that gave me pause to really think about what I am bringing to my clients. What makes me different than my competitors, and why people should choose to work with me, instead of another Virtual Assistant. Have you ever done this exercise for your VA business? Do you know why your clients work with you? Or if you don’t have clients yet, do you know why someone SHOULD work with you over someone else? If you haven’t stopped to think about this yet, I highly recommend that you do. As VAs, your own value can be a very tough thing to see in yourself. First, we are new to the industry and seemingly… Read More »Why Do Your Clients Choose You As Their Virtual Assistant?

Who Inspires You in your VA Business?

Who inspires you in your business? When we work alone all day, every day, sometimes inspiration is something that eludes us. At least on a regular basis. It’s important for Virtual Assistants to connect with people who inspire to do well, to build, to grow, or to do whatever it is you want to do with your business. I am on the mailing lists and in the social media groups of many, many people that I look to for inspiration. Sometimes I need inspiration to know that I am on the right path. Sometimes it’s to help me find my way through a period of growth. And sometimes it’s just to help me keep my mindset in a positive space.… Read More »Who Inspires You in your VA Business?

Do You Really Have What It Takes To Be a Successful Virtual Assistant?

Getting into business is easy. Staying in business … not so much. There is the basic stuff that you have to know, like business and marketing, of course, but that’s not what I’m talking about. I’m talking about you. Your personality. Your perseverance. Your personal strength. Arlene Dickinson talks about this in her book All In. She says if you don’t have the personal strength (she calls it a few different things – mental muscle is one of my favourites – but basically it is really about resilience and personal strength) then you will not be able to cut it as an entrepreneur. I totally agree with this. Not everyone has the mental strength to be a business owner, and… Read More »Do You Really Have What It Takes To Be a Successful Virtual Assistant?

Have You Had a Day Like This?

This week I was a sponsor at two different local events. When you work virtually, leaving the house can be somewhat challenging – so many things to remember! If I am headed to a business networking event, all I ever really need is my business cards – so that’s pretty simple. But when I am a sponsor, there are so many more things to coordinate. This week one of my events was seamless … and one was not! The first one I brought my banner, my table set up, my business cards, my giveaway and my bowl of candy. I had sponsored this particular event before so I knew what the crowd was like and I knew what I wanted… Read More »Have You Had a Day Like This?

Do You Know Your Own Value as a Virtual Assistant?

If I were to ask you what your value is, how would you answer? It’s a bit of an open ended question but it’s a really important one to consider as a business owner. Do you actually know your own value? So many things we do in our business come down to the value we bring to the client. I tell all of my clients (and anyone else who will listen!) that people want to know two things: what you can do for them and how much it will cost them. That’s it. Nothing more! Both parts of this rely very heavily on how valuable you are to your clients. This training session is about recognizing what you bring to… Read More »Do You Know Your Own Value as a Virtual Assistant?

How Successful People Think

Have you ever read John C. Maxwell’s book ‘How Successful People Think’? It’s one of my favourite business books. I give it to many of my clients when we work together as well. It shines a great light on the idea of mindset as a business owner, and it gives you really great tips to bring productive thinking into your daily life. Maxwell actually talks about 11 types of thinking (!) in the book, and breaks down each one. From big-picture thinking, to strategic thinking, to bottom-line thinking, he covers it all, and I love to go back and read the chapters over again when I feel the need to work on any area of my business. This week I am… Read More »How Successful People Think

How To Keep Your New Year’s Resolutions

The New Year always brings new intentions. It’s a fresh start, and everyone has new ideas they want to implement into their life and business. I know I do! I laugh as I look through my social media news feeds and see people joking about the increase in traffic at the gym. That’s always one of the biggest resolutions people have. To get in shape. Go to the gym. But by the end of January, many of those people just stop going. I have friends who tell me that they actually don’t go to the gym in January because the newbies are all there, but by the end of January it’s safe for them to head back because it starts… Read More »How To Keep Your New Year’s Resolutions
