To make great connections networking for\nyour VA business, all it takes is a little bit of strategy.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s not about the quantity of connections, it\u2019s about\nthe quality. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the best things you can add into your networking\nstrategy is research. Researching the people you want to connect with helps you\nidentify what you can talk to them about, learn more about them, and build more\nquality connections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now I\u2019m not talking about doing a large research project\non everyone you want to connect with. This research is a quick checklist\/system\nthat you can use to learn a little bit about the connections you want to make.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don\u2019t make connections just for the sake of making a\nconnection. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

By doing just a little research, we can determine if\nsomeone might be a good fit for us \u2013 it\u2019s more efficient, and more authentic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Doing research means learning a little bit about the\nperson you want to connect with. This helps you make a better connection from\nthe start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s like implementing something that you have just\nlearned. If you don\u2019t put what you have learned into practice, you will lose\nthe knowledge you have acquired and you will have wasted the time you spent\nlearning it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The same goes for our networking. If you just click names to connect without learning anything about them, you are effectively wasting your time. I don\u2019t know about you, but my time is limited \u2013 I want to use it wisely!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, how do we do this research?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Find Them<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Find your people by searching job titles or industry\ngroups, interests or hobbies, cities they live in, in the platforms you are\nusing to find connections. Whatever the target group is you are looking for is\nwhat you will use to search.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. What Do You Have in Common?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Look for the common ground they have with you, and with\ntheir colleagues. Do they use a certain software to run their business? Do they\nattend a regular event? Do they run their business in a similar way to their\ncolleagues? Do they know the same people as you? Having something in common\nhelps initial connections as well as conversations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Check Out Their Social Media<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Go to their social media profiles. Where are they most\nactive? That\u2019s where you want to connect with them. What are they posting,\ncommenting on, liking, sharing?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Visit Their Website<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Look also at their website. What is their business setup?\nWho do they work with? How do they work with them? How do they promote their\nbusiness? How does that relate to the services you offer?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Note these few things in your follow up system so you can\nreference it when you do connect with them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Research doesn\u2019t have to take a long time. You don\u2019t need\nto read every blog post. Scan their content and note what they post, where they\npost, and so on. You\u2019ll use this information when you make the connection with\nthem \u2013 to show them that you have learned a little about them and are\ninterested in making a genuine connection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not only will this teach you about this ONE connection \u2013\nbut it will teach you more about people who are similar to them as well \u2013 your\ntarget market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For example, business coaches often do one to one\ncoaching as well as group programs and sometimes even live events and speaking.\nWe can tell this by looking at their websites. That\u2019s easy. But when we find\nthem online, we can also find out where they are networking, what they are\nposting, who they are talking to, and how they are communicating with others. Research\nalso shows us who else is in their community \u2013 and who else we might be able to\nhelp, if our services support business coaches. When you find a group of\nsimilar business owners, your networking becomes even more effective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And last, be sure to follow them, like their content,\ncomment where it feels right, and share it if it\u2019s relevant.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

They will notice that, and when you go to actually\nconnect with them, they will be more apt to recognize you as someone who is\ninterested in their business than just some stranger who is looking to sell\nthem VA services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Research is your friend \u2013 develop a simple system for\nyourself to look a little deeper at your connections before clicking that\nconnect button, and start to build meaningful relationships with people in your\nnetworking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s more authentic, and it\u2019s more fun too!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
