Virtual assistants are in demand now more than ever \u2013\nsmall business owners need us to help them run their businesses. <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Freshbooks states that 66% of small businesses will outsource services to\nother small businesses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Naturally this is a good\nstatistic for Virtual Assistants! We know we are in demand. We know that there\nare many clients out there that want to work with us. And we definitely want to\nwork with those clients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But because a lot of\nVirtual Assistants make mistakes when they begin working with clients, far too\nmany of them don\u2019t stay in business long term.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I want to talk about\neight of the big mistakes VAs make \u2013 in this post I\u2019ll start with 4!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I spend a lot of time\ntalking to (and listening to) Virtual Assistants every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are a lot of new\nVAs in the conversations, naturally, and there are a lot of \u2018newbie\u2019 questions.\nThat\u2019s perfectly normal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course people who are\nstarting out are looking to our VA groups and veterans for the advice they need\nto start their own VA business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But, there are also\nmany, many VAs in these groups who would not consider themselves to be newbies,\nbut they are still making mistakes that are easily fixable!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Clients want to know what you can do for them, and how much it will cost them. So tell them!” <\/em>– Tracey D\u2019Aviero<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I say this often and it\u2019s the truth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All your clients want to\nknow if how you can help them, and how much they will pay. It\u2019s your job to\nhelp them with these two things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s why fixing these\nmistakes is so important \u2013 because it will help you get the clients you so\ndesperately are seeking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here are the biggest\nmistakes I see:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

They say yes to every\nclient, no matter what they need help with.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

To be an amazing VA, you\nneed to do what you do best. Offer services that clients need that you know how\nto do. Saying yes to whatever a client needs help with means that you are\nadopting an employee mentality. Just because a client needs helps with this or\nthat, doesn\u2019t mean that you have to help them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What to do<\/em>: Stick with what you know. Seek\nout clients who need the services that you shine at providing, and wow\nthem!   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

They work for free,\nor they barter.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Confidence is everything\nwhen you are trying to find great VA clients. And yet it can be hard to come by\nif you haven\u2019t had great luck with getting clients yet. VAs who discount their\nrates, work for free, or barter \u2013 often are doing so because of a lack of\nconfidence in their ability to help clients. But you have so much admin\nexperience. You are more than qualified. When a client asks about money, it\u2019s\nnot always because they are looking for a deal \u2013 get comfortable with talking\nabout money in your VA business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What to do:<\/em> Find the clients who need the\nservices that you know how to provide. Focus on your expertise, and ask them what\ntheir budget is. Work within that budget and you don\u2019t have to discount or\nbarter.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

They don\u2019t set their\nrates properly.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Another big mistake VAs\nmake is not actually setting their rates properly. You can\u2019t pick a number out\nof thin air, or just charge what others are charging. If you aren\u2019t sure why\nyou are charging what you are, that will come through to your clients \u2013 and they\nmay question your expertise. Remember that every minute you work for a client,\nthey are paying for. The client is paying for that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What to do:<\/em> Do that math to figure out your\nrates. When you do that, you will know precisely why you are charging what you are,\nand you will be much more confident when speaking with clients, and when\nbilling them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

They make the client\nfigure out if they can help them. <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Showcasing your\nexpertise is one of the best things you can learn to do as a VA. Having conversations\nwith clients is the next best. Making the client go here or there to figure out\nif you can help them is another mistake VAs make. Sales conversations make a\nlot of VAs nervous, so they avoid them. But the more you do them, the easier\nthey get \u2013 and they are the fastest way to get new clients! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What to do:<\/em> Don\u2019t make the client figure it\nout \u2013 book a meeting with them and have a conversation to discuss their needs\ndirectly. Ask questions and if you can help, then tell them exactly how.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
