I recently attended a conference and one of the speakers, Matthew Goldfarb, asked us what our motivation was for doing what we do.<\/p>\n

It was one of those exercises that was really eye-opening for me.<\/p>\n

Of course I know why I run my own business, and what makes me happy about it. But to actually do an exercise that made me write those motivations down was the eye-opening part.<\/p>\n

I know that I want to be in control of my income, I want to set\u00a0 my own schedule, and so on. Those are probably similar motivations for you as well.<\/p>\n

But Matthew encouraged us to go deeper, and really write a good list of things that were the things that encouraged you to work harder and be better in our businesses.<\/p>\n

It was fun to think of all of the great things that being a business owner can bring to us, so I thought I would share some of my motivations with you! These are the things that have motivated me over the years … some of them may sound pretty familiar to you.<\/p>\n

I want to make more money –<\/em> I want to be able to bring in a comfortable income to our household.<\/p>\n

I want to work less –<\/em> I want to work smarter, not harder, and be able to value my free time more with my family and friends, while still providing to the household.<\/p>\n

I want to be financially free –<\/em> I want to not have to think about paying bills or getting support in my business. I want to be be able to buy what I want, when I want it.<\/p>\n

I want to travel –<\/em> I want to be able to go to the places that I have always wanted to go, and enjoy all life has to offer.<\/p>\n

I want my husband to have less stress –<\/em> I want to be able to take the burden off of him to be the main provider in our household.<\/p>\n

I want to take my son places and give him things –<\/em> I want to be able to show my son the world and have fun with him.<\/p>\n

I want to have a group of people that look up to me and know that I helped them to build the live they want –<\/em> I want to be able to leave a legacy that allows others to enjoy the same type of lifestyle I want for myself.<\/p>\n

Motivations are fun to think about, but it’s really important to acknowledge them, and nurture them too.<\/p>\n

They can (and should) be the driving force behind your business, because they are the reasons that you are doing what you are doing.<\/p>\n

I am motivated by the list above because of the skills and services that I provide to my clients every day.<\/p>\n

I help people build successful businesses. I support them when they are stuck, and I help them move forward. I teach them the skills they need so that they can grow and succeed.<\/p>\n

I have a huge list of things that motivate me every day. What I’ve shared with you is just a small part of that.<\/p>\n

Now I want you to make a list of what motivates you. Think about why you want to have a successful business. The bigger the motivation the better!<\/p>\n
