Market Your Business (Well!) in 20 Minutes a Day

Are you spending all day marketing your business? Or no time at all?

I run into this often when I am talking with VAs.

Either they say they are spending all day looking for clients, because they have no client work to do.

Or they are spending all their time doing client work, and they don’t have time to organize and do marketing.

Neither of these are going to serve you in your business.

Marketing is so important – whether you are actively looking for clients or not, you need to be sure that you have a marketing plan that suits your schedule, and helps you meet your goals.

Here are some of the things you can do in just 20 minutes a day (every day!) to keep your business in front of your audience.

It’s very easy to get sucked down the rabbit hole of marketing – particularly on social media – so what you need to do is to develop a strategy that minimizes the time you spend doing it, while maximizing your results.

What are you spending your time on now? Knowing what you are doing is the first step.

You are probably on social media, attending live networking events, writing blog posts, sending out newsletters, making images, researching inspirational and motivational quotes, and more.

These are really common things that people ‘do’ for marketing. But are they working for you?

How much time are you spending doing any of these?

How many clients have you gotten directly from attending live events or from social media – or through posting motivational quote graphics?

Who is reading your blog or newsletter?

Newsflash: without a plan none of these things will find you clients.

So what do you need to do instead?

Focus on one to three activities – and do them really well.

Commit the time, and the strategy. Track your activity and make adjustments where necessary, so that you get the results you seek.

What can you do in 20 minutes a day?

  • Post 2 updates on two to three profiles
  • Respond to everyone who has reacted to your posts
  • Thank people for sharing your content (really thank them, not just ‘thanks for the RT’!)
  • Find new people to follow
  • Unfollow those that are cluttering your feed
  • Make two connections a day on other people’s posts (or share their stuff)
  • Write 3 posts to schedule on your social media
  • Create 2 images for your social media

That whole list will probably take you LESS than 20 minutes a day – and it will be much more effective than blindly scrolling through your feed.

Your marketing strategy needs to be targeted, focused and smart for it to be effective.

Try it for a month. Just 20 minutes a day can help you develop a steady routine, and you can figure out what works for you (so you can do more of it!)

The most important thing is to be consistent with your efforts.

The second most important thing is to track what you are doing so you know what is working – and what is not. Don’t spend your time doing things you don’t need to do.

Set a good goal – one that you can measure. Get one client from Linked In by the end of the month. That’s measurable in many ways.

Then develop a set of action plans to help you reach that goal.

Spend your 20 minutes a day focused on marketing that supports that goal.

Then celebrate that client (I bet you’ll even get more than one!)
