Are You Still Afraid to Niche Down Your VA Services?

Fear of niching down is very common for Virtual Assistants. Is it for you? Every time I ask VAs who their target market is, or what their service offerings are, and I get a vague answer, I know they are afraid to specialize in one or the other. I ask them, of course, why they haven’t defined those things, and they tell me that they don’t know yet, or they don’t want to miss out on clients, or they don’t want to say no to someone who asks them for help. The funny thing is that you never have to say no to someone if you want to work with them – ever! And honestly, if you have a business… Read More »Are You Still Afraid to Niche Down Your VA Services?

How Often Do You Say No as a VA?

When is the last time you said no to a client? A lot of Virtual Assistants I talk to say one of their biggest issues is doing tasks they don’t want to do every day. For some reason, they think they need to do whatever their clients ask them to do. But here’s the thing – you are not their employee. Yes, they pay you to do work for them. But that doesn’t mean that they get to decide what you do each day. You are a business owner in your own right – and you get to decide what services you offer – and which ones you turn down. If you are saying yes to your clients when you… Read More »How Often Do You Say No as a VA?

Help! How Do I Fix Scope Creep in My VA Business?

Quick question: do you love everything you do every day for all of your Virtual Assistant clients? Many VAs I talk to can’t say they love everything they do. Some of them don’t even LIKE what they are doing. It is so important for the longevity of your VA business (and you as a business owner) that you make it a priority to enjoy what you are doing every day. Ask yourself why you are doing things that aren’t really your specialty, or that you don’t really like to do. Is it because you are their ‘assistant’ and so you think you have to do whatever your client asks you to do? Is it because you are afraid that the… Read More »Help! Do You Dream Big?

Have you ever made a vision board? I attended a workshop last week that was hosted by a colleague – it was called Grilled Cheese and Girl Talk. Why on Earth would I not attend such an event?! (you had me at grilled cheese!) The workshop was put on for us to make vision boards. And they even fed us, courtesy of MLTDWN. Wow. So good! I am not a creative person. I honestly have done so many personality tests and brain tests and my creativity is almost totally stifled by my logical side of my brain. So I never GOT what it was to do a vision board. I have never done one prior to last week. Sure I set… Read More »Do You Dream Big?

Is Finding a Niche For Your VA Business Really Necessary?

One of the things that comes up quite often in my discussions with VAs is whether they need to find a niche to be successful. My answer to this question is a definite YES and NO. Choosing a niche is a personal choice, like everything else in your business. There are advantages and disadvantages to deciding to work with a particular group of people. If you’re not sure what I mean by finding a niche, it’s basically choose to segment a group of people to target your networking/marketing/work with. You can choose a group by the industry they are part of (ie travel industry), orby type of person they are (married with families, female solopreneurs) or the service you provide (WordPress websites).… Read More »Is Finding a Niche For Your VA Business Really Necessary?

Make a Decision Now – What Do You Want to Do?

Do you like vacuuming? I can’t stand it. I tend to do it quickly to get it overwith so it makes me all hot and sweaty. Just probably my least favourite household chore. I do a decent job but I often take shortcuts because I just dislike it that much. I also don’t like ironing, but I’m good at it so there’s that. I tend to iron as we need things though, instead of doing it all at once like my Mom used to do. I do like dusting. I have this amazing furniture polish from Melaleuca that I really like. It smells great and it really does a beautiful job. And I quite enjoy doing the laundry. I get into… Read More »Make a Decision Now – What Do You Want to Do?

How to Manage Your Stress Level

Being a solopreneur can take its toll on your body, and your mind. There is always an incomplete list of things that need doing. There are always better ways to do the things you do daily. There are always other people who seem to be doing things better than you are doing them. Or at least it feels that way sometimes. When you get up in the morning, are you still excited to get your day started? If you are, that’s amazing. Hold on to that feeling! (I’ll get back to you in a minute!) If you are not, you are among a very large group of people feeling the same way. (No kidding, you are not alone!) So what… Read More »How to Manage Your Stress Level
