What’s On Your Mind?

What’s on your mind? You get greeted with this question every time you log in to your Facebook profile. It’s a pretty simple question when you think about it … it really just means … what are you thinking about at this very moment? On the surface, that question might cause you to think of something that is happening during your day, or something you will be doing soon. From a marketing standpoint, it goes deeper than that. What are you planning? What are you strategizing? What are you working on? What ‘mode’ are you in? When you are in business, you are always in some sort of mode. Strategy, planning, implementation, analysis. If you aren’t in one of these… Read More »What’s On Your Mind?

Wow, what’s that?

I don’t know about you, but I like to learn new things. When something comes along that I think might be valuable in my business or my clients’ businesses, I usually stop and have a look. It can be a new tool for organization or collaboration … something that maybe will help us automate something a little bit better … or maybe it’s just something cool. If I am really conscious of what I am doing, I can figure out when would be a good time to check something out in more detail. But sometimes … okay most of the time … I am not that present … and I become the victim of Shiny Object Syndrome. You know what… Read More »Wow, what’s that?

One Woman’s Trash …

As you may know, I recently sent out a survey to my VA connections to see what they were interested in learning about this year, to improve their business marketing. I offered each respondent their choice of one of three free gifts in response for filling out my survey. I figured it was the least I could do if someone took a few moments to provide with the information I need to build great programs in my business. The response was great – in just a few days I had over 70 responses, which gave me a lot of information that will help with me with my planning. I was very pleased with the results. (If you want to see… Read More »One Woman’s Trash …

Are You Using Your Outside Voice?

Recently I was having a conversation with a mentoring student about communicating with clients. She is a relatively new Virtual Assistant, and she is still a bit timid around clients. It’s a stage that all new VAs go through – not really having that confidence that you know the right things to say around a new client – and that kind of thing. It’s one thing to know what you are doing, but it’s another to tell a client what they should be doing. It’s a situation that you need to learn how to handle as a VA – and once you do, you will not only gain confidence, but you will also gain their trust, respect and even their… Read More »Are You Using Your Outside Voice?

Do You Recognize Your Own Value?

I have been reading Harvey Mackay‘s new book The Mackay MBA of Selling in the Real World. It’s a terrific, easy-to-read book that takes you through the various components of how to sell effectively – by being you and by knowing what your customers want. That is some serious paraphrasing, but you get the point! One of the chapters in particular spoke to me and I wanted to share it with you. It’s called Sell Yourself. Harvey talks about the three toughest sells being Company, Product and Self. As a small business owner and a mentor, I know how difficult selling yourself can be. Selling yourself can be one of the most difficult things to do, if you do not… Read More »Do You Recognize Your Own Value?

Help your success find you

Recently I purchased a new wallet for myself. For years I had used the same wallet … it was special because a friend had given it to me as a gift, and I never wanted to get a new one. It finally gave in and had so many tears in it that I could no longer carry coins in it (can you imagine!?). So I finally broke down and got myself a new wallet. It’s not the same as my old wallet but it has places for everything that I need and I am getting accustomed to the new places for everything. Since I made that small change – and gave my money a secure, new place to hang out… Read More »Help your success find you

How does your marketing calendar look?

I love to sit down and plan things in my marketing calendar. First, it really helps me to get a clear vision of what I have coming up. Second, it gets me excited about how I can expand and grow my business. And last but certainly not least, it makes me accountable to do the things I say I’m going to do! Planning a marketing calendar takes no more than a pen and paper. Sure, you can get as fancy as you like and set it up online, or you can do it like me and just use post-it notes on your wall calendar. Whatever you choose, you should be sure to detail out what you want to do so… Read More »How does your marketing calendar look?

Waiting to market until your website is live?

I had a conversation with a VA recently about websites. One of the key stopping points for many VAs who are just getting started is their website. The issue is one of a few things: they can’t afford to get a website up yet they are exhaustively working on the page content and they are not ready to get it developed yet they are trying to learn HTML themselves so they can build their own website they are working with a designer to get it ‘just right’ and the designer is very busy … the list of reasons to not have it live yet goes on and on Essentially, they are making excuses for not ‘getting out there’, and they… Read More »Waiting to market until your website is live?
